Connect Tees Valley improves planning for walking and cycling

After developing Stage 1 of the Connect Tees Valley website/travel planner (http://www.connectteesvalley.com/) Steer Davies Gleave has recently been awarded the contract to develop and deliver Stage 2 of this ground-breaking travel information portal.

Tees Valley council launched Stage 1 of their innovative application for journey planning in their region in March 2009, which contains the latest information on public transport modes as well as a ‘My Journey’ section which helps people to plan their route across Tees Valley in terms of time, distance and interchanges. Stage 2 of the project will see Steer Davies Gleave’s design and communications team create an additional option to plan walking and cycling trips in and around the Tees Valley area.

As part of Stage 2 development, users will also be given carbon footprint information for each mode of transport, and information on the number of calories you could burn if you decide to take a more ‘active’ option. A mobile version of the portal is also being developed, as well as an interactive Traffic Map that draws upon information supplied by the National Traffic Control Centre.

Stage 2 of Connect Tees Valley will be launched in July 2010.
