A review of the main forecasting tool for transport demand in the Greater Dublin Area has recently been completed by leading transport consultancy Steer Davies Gleave.
We were asked by the Dublin Transportation Office to conduct the review before it develops its transportation strategy.
Our recommendations will be used to revise the model that tests the response to supply and demand management policies when comparing alternative strategies.
Recommendations for the model include:
- modelling business travellers' journeys separately to other journey purposes;
- refining the way parking supply is represented; and,
- placing more emphasis on travel demand during off-peak times.
Work on implementing the recommendations has already begun. Steer Davies Gleave`s project manager Yaron Hollander said: 'The review ensures that the authorities in Dublin have a tool that can estimate future demand in a way that is more sensitive to the various policies they are considering'.
Notes to the Editor
- The Dublin Transportation Office is required to update its strategy every five years.
- The new transport strategy will become inextricably linked to the sustainable land use planning polices for the Greater Dublin area.
