Mark Mukherji and I were in Denver this week with teaming partners HNTB for a fascinating project kick off and then a reception for the AREMA conference, thank you Dom Spaethling, and Lisa Sakata for hosting and leading, and it was lovely to see former colleague John Cockle.
After riding the Regional Transportation District's free electric bus to Denver Union Station, I took the A line to the airport for free!
Firstly, I do love taking transit from an airport to a downtown, that's not all that common in North America. Secondly, chapeau to RTD for linking free transit to a wider emissions reduction goal and the communications plan behind it.
We often recommend pilots to clients who are interested in trying new things but recognize the significant investment a full roll out could be. I'm looking forward to understanding the impact of the initiative on emissions and ridership against a normal August baseline.
This collaborative, statewide initiative, made possible by Colorado Senate Bill 22-180, in partnership with the Colorado Energy Office, is designed to reduce ground-level ozone by increasing the use of public transit.
